Last Wednesday at a café, I got stumped
I met up with Anan, an old friend who does brand design, at Sanlitun. She was scrolling through screenshots labeled "Sonnet 5.5," "Opus 5.5," "Claude Mods" and asked me: "What's this got to do with me? I can't even code." I froze for three seconds — honestly, I've dodged these version-number dumps too. Every time I see one, my instinct is to scroll past.
What Anthropic actually shipped this week
Anthropic is the company behind Claude. In one week they pushed: Sonnet 5.5, Opus 5.5, a Plugins store, Cloud Sessions, Claude Mods (custom workflows) — and folded the "collaboration" and "chat" versions into one thing called Claude Projects.
For non-coders, the model version numbers can be skipped — those are for engineers tuning benchmarks. The only thing a small operator can actually use today is Claude Projects. In plain words: dump all the files for one project (client background, copy, style notes) into a single "folder," and every future answer from AI is grounded in that pile.
Who's already using it: my friend Sister Lin (林姐) runs Xiaohongshu (Little Red Book) accounts for clients. She dumped 5 clients' product manuals, tone guides, and top-performing posts into one Project. Next time she writes copy, she just asks "write a new product push in Client A's style" — AI already knows who Client A is, no re-pasting needed.
What it costs you to try today
• Money: Free tier works. Pro is about $20/month (check claude.ai for current pricing — China-region pricing may differ).
• Time: Sign up + load files. You'll run your first real query within 30 minutes.
• Technical barrier: Browser + typing. No installs, no code.
• First step: Open claude.ai → sign up → click "Projects" in the left sidebar → "Create Project" → paste in the materials from your most painful client → start a new chat and ask a real question.
(Accessing claude.ai from mainland China requires a VPN — if that's a blocker for you, skip it for now, totally fine. You won't miss anything by waiting a week.)
How to use it depending on where you are
• Just starting, no clients yet: Don't rush. Come back when you have one steady client and start doing the same kind of work every week — that's when it pays off, not today.
• Already have 1-2 clients: I'd start with the one client who drains you the most. When you deliver their content next week, you'll feel the difference immediately.
• Scaling, 3-5 person team: One Project per client/project, shared across the team. New hires don't need to read 100 docs — they just ask the AI. This is what I'm planning to set up for my own team next.
