It was just past 9am Monday. I sat down at a café in Xuhui.
The client pinged: "3 revision drafts due by 3pm." My palms went cold — that kind of work used to cost me an all-nighter.
So what is Sonnet 5.5? Why is everyone in my circle talking about it?
Short version: it's the new model just dropped by Anthropic (the company behind Claude). Picture an intern with a sharper brain and faster reflexes. I spent an afternoon letting it help Xiaomin — a friend of mine who runs a personal IP, doing a maternal-content WeChat public account out of Shenzhen — revise her 3 fertility-prep articles. Tone, headlines, endings, all matched to her voice. Done in 10 minutes.
It's the same category as ChatGPT that most of us already use, but it sounds way more "human" in Chinese, especially for emotional soft-copy. I'll admit I messed this up before: I used ChatGPT to write a WeChat Moments post once, and the client took one look and said "this is AI." With Sonnet 5.5, that robotic flavor drops a lot.
You can try it today — barrier to entry is low
Money: The free tier works. You get around 5–10 tries per week. Paid runs about $20/month (roughly 140 RMB). For most solo creators I know, free is plenty.
Time: 10 minutes from signup to first conversation. I actually finished the whole signup on the subway.
Technical barrier: Zero coding. If you can chat on WeChat, you can use this. Just open claude.ai in your browser, make an account, and click the "New Chat" button in the top-left corner.
First step: Log into claude.ai → click New Chat → paste your draft → type "rewrite this in a more conversational WeChat public account style."
Three types of people — here's how I'd nudge each one to try it
If you're just starting (no clients yet): Hold off. Your priority right now is figuring out what to sell. AI tools aren't required — wait until you land that first client.
If you already have 1–2 clients: Strong nudge to spend 10 minutes today trying it. Feed it drafts you've already written, get it to mimic your voice, and next time a client pushes a deadline you'll deliver in 10 minutes — and spend the saved time with family.
If you're scaling (team of 3–5): Get everyone on the team signed up and split the copywriting load. One caution though — clients want your voice, not the AI's. Let AI draft, you set the tone. That order matters and can't be flipped.
