What This Is
A design document for an enterprise business operations database appeared on Juejin this week, covering four tables—product, customer, order, and order detail—all built on MySQL's relational architecture with complete CREATE TABLE SQL. No AI algorithms, no large-model fingerprints, yet it represents the most foundational layer of enterprise information systems.
What's worth paying attention to: over the past year we've seen too many pieces claiming "AI Agents are reshaping the enterprise," but when you actually wire AI into the business, the very first object the system has to operate on is exactly this kind of structured data foundation. If the schema is messy, fields are missing, or field definitions don't match across systems, no Agent—no matter how clever—can produce anything but garbage.
Industry View
Supporters argue this is the real cut at how AI lands in the enterprise—even the smartest Agent's first step is reading data. One enterprise architect put it bluntly in the comments: "The Agent isn't deciding for me; it's looking up data for me, and if it can't find it, it's nothing."
The objections are equally direct: tying database design to AI is fear-mongering. A clean order table should have existed since the 1990s; failing at that has nothing to do with AI—this is a fundamentals problem, not a new one. We agree with the second half—fundamentals are indeed an old problem—but the AI era changes things: before, a messy table could still keep business running; now Agents read directly, and errors get amplified instantly. The cost of being wrong is fundamentally different.
Impact on Regular People
For enterprise IT: in the coming year, roles focused on "preparing data for AI" (data governance, knowledge base construction) will be scarcer and get hired before "model training" roles.
For individual careers: the field quality employees leave behind in CRM and ERP every day will shift from "doesn't matter" to "AI will pull this directly into reports"—the cost of sloppiness just went up.
For the consumer market: consumers will notice faster that AI customer service can pull accurate order records and deliver coherent solutions—what's behind it isn't a bigger model, but a cleaner backend.
