She uploaded client event photos from her phone straight to the storage box at home, then sent them on to a freelance editor without moving them over one by one. I got this wrong before too—I assumed it could replace every cloud drive from day one, but that’s not necessarily true.

What it costs to copy this today

Money: usually the device cost plus the hard drive cost, so setting aside RMB 1,500-3,000 is safer. Time: the first round of setup and organizing takes about 1-3 hours. Technical barrier: not that high, about like setting up a home device, but it does require being willing to learn “put files in one central place.” First step: open the product page or official site and look for the buttons or descriptions for “automatic phone backup” and “family sharing.” If you don’t already use a Xiaomi phone and don’t have other same-brand devices, I’d probably wait first. Not everyone needs this tool, and it’s fine not to try it right now.

Advice by stage: just starting / 1-2 clients / scaling up

If I were just starting, I’d treat it first as a file-loss prevention and organization tool, without rushing into complicated features.
If I already had 1-2 clients, I’d use it first to centralize contracts, deliverables, and source files, so I’m not hunting through chat history for documents.
If I were scaling up, I’d treat it as a team asset handoff hub—but I’d still keep cloud backups too. I wouldn’t put all my eggs in one basket.
