Within two weeks of launch, the most-discussed feature in updream (Bilibili's AI creation tool) is called "Preview Stage." We believe its real significance is not a tool upgrade, but a formal shift in AI video workflows — from "gacha gambling" to "construction by blueprint."

What this is

No matter how strong AI video models get, they hit the same awkward wall: characters shift position between shots, tables warp, furniture vanishes — models can only "guess" the frame from text, with no sense of space.

The "white-model preview" workflow (3D simplified models carrying depth info, akin to architectural mockups) essentially draws a "construction blueprint" for the AI in advance, in three steps:

Step one: generate a 3D space from concept art to lock down scene depth, scale, and occlusion. Step two: draw character tracks and camera tracks inside that space — who walks from where to where, how the camera moves. Step three: export a white-model clip as reference, then feed it to the video model to generate the final live-action shot. The whole process requires no modeling background — just drag-and-drop with a mouse.

Core shift: the final output is no longer luck-based, but locked down by spatial relationships in advance.

Industry view

Optimistic voices cluster on the production side. Post-production professionals report that a 15-second ad that used to take 50–100 generations to land one usable take now takes just 3–5 — a 10x compression in working hours.

But after our review, at least three categories of skepticism deserve attention:

First, costs may rise rather than fall. Stacking white-model compute on top of video-model compute, per-clip cost remains 3–5x that of traditional shooting — unfit for e-commerce materials that demand dozens of clips a day.

Second, the control surface is limited. White models can only express space and blocking; the moment details like facial expression, fabric physics, or extras' interactions appear, the model still "freelances." So-called precision currently covers only camera work — not real directorial authority.

Third, ecosystem lock-in concerns. updream's compatibility with mainstream video models like Kling, Hailuo, and Seedance is still being worked out; the migration cost after export remains high, creating a real "tool hostage" risk.

Impact on regular people

For consumer markets: short video and short drama in the second half will see a wave of content with "weakened AI signatures" — steadier camera work, more coherent space, while "obviously AI" works fade out. The distinguishing power of good content will return to creativity itself.

For personal careers: ops roles that can use Jianying won't be replaced, but the entry bar is quietly rising — "knowing preview" is now worth more than "knowing editing," and 3D spatial sense is becoming the new bonus skill.

For enterprise IT: consumer goods, real estate, and education are shifting marketing videos from "outsourced shooting" to "in-house white-model + AI," cutting per-clip cost by 60–80%. But companies need an "AI director" who understands spatial sense to sit in the middle — and demand for such roles is already emerging.
