The "more control" pitch lands concretely on three developer-facing capabilities: system instructions (preset text telling the model what role to play and what rules to follow), tool calling (letting the model proactively invoke external APIs), and structured output (forcing the model to respond in fixed formats like JSON).

The developer community is broadly receptive: from the enterprise architects we've spoken with, a model that "follows orders" matters more in deployment than one that dazzles.
